Once found the path is well worn and obviously a very popular walk. The view down to Playa Blanca and Papagayo is incredible from here, following the path around the rim of the crater I was rewarded with views to Fuerteventura and Playa Flamingo. It was late afternoon and the sun was low in the sky, it was a shame that the lighthouse at El Faro was hard to see from the glare.

In fact as I was making my descent there were a few couples just starting the walk up. I liked the view along the coast towards El Golfo and the Salinas del Janubio, the landscape is flat in comparison here with the Timanfaya fire mountains in the distance. Although a fairly steep incline up the path would be suitable for most to manage, just take your time up and enjoy the view.

You can lengthen the walk by starting at any point in Playa Blanca or along its lengthy promenade but I describe the shortest route. Easy and short the route maybe but it offers the opportunity for a complete circuit of a crater, superb views from its top of Playa Blanca, across to Fuerteventura and interesting volcanic rocks to see en route. There is no shade or refreshment opportunities during the walk but you are not far from a beer afterwards!. The walk starts from an urbanization to the west of Playa Blanca.

To get there, turn west off the LZ2 on the northern outskirts of Playa Blanca at the roundabout with the filling station, following Faro de Pechiguera. Park here somewhere. You can see the obvious path ascending to the right of the volcano.
